Adelaide family businesses honoured by Lord Mayor Martin Haese

Andrew and his wife Deb were thrilled to attend the 2017 Lord Mayor’s Business Legends presentation earlier this month, honouring long-standing Adelaide businesses such as Andrew Mazzone Design Jewellers. The event was held by Lord Mayor Martin Haese to recognise businesses that have been based in the city or North Adelaide for 25 years or more, and the contribution that they’ve made to the community and economy. Second-generation jeweller Andrew Mazzone explained that he and his family are proud of their shop’s history and its long association with its Pulteney Street location.

“My family and I have shared a love for jewellery for more than 50 years now, and it has been a pleasure working with our customers in Adelaide during this time,” he said. Andrew’s father Quinto opened the first ‘Mazzone’ store in Glynde in 1966, before the family moved to their current store in the CBD. As a result, Andrew grew up with a passion for jewellery and decided to make it his career in 1986, when he completed his Dimploma of Jewellery Design and his apprenticeship in metalsmithing alongside Quinto.

In 1999, Andrew made his own mark in the industry by rebranding the store, taking the Mazzone name to the next level by bringing in new jewellery pieces and fresh idea's. Today, Andrew Mazzone Design Jeweller specialises in custom-made engagement and wedding rings and unique jewellery pieces, and has a reputation within the jewellery industry for quality products and exceptional customer service. The Lord Mayor’s Local Business Legends event was held at the Adelaide Town Hall on Wednesday, April 5 and was a great opportunity to recognise the numerous long-standing businesses in Adelaide.

“It was also really great to meet other businesses that have been established in Adelaide for some time, and catch up with other fantastic family businesses,” Andrew added. Fun fact for our readers: Rundle Mall’s Barlow Shoes was the oldest family business present on the night, having been passed down six generations since 1896 – who knew!
